All Things D: According to Juniper Networks, hackers created 28,500 pieces of mobile malware in 2011. That’s more than double the 11,000 pieces of malware that targeted mobile devices in 2010. More than 46 percent of that malicious code targeted Android devices, and 41 percent aimed for Java ME. Thanks to its strict app approval process, Apple’s iOS largely avoided the malware epidemic.

The report found that 63 percent of the malicious mobile apps could be classified as spyware, while 36 percent of mobile malware came as Trojans sent in text messages.
