GigaOm: Research firm Verdantix has released a new report sponsored by AT&T which claims that cloud computing could reduce enterprise energy costs by $12.3 billion. In addition, it says the trend could reduce carbon emissions by 85.7 million metric tons per year by 2020.
However, it’s worth noting that while most studies sponsored by cloud vendors find significant energy savings in cloud computing, other researchers say the cloud offers minimal or nonexistent energy use reductions.
