The Wall Street Journal: Unnamed sources say that hackers based in China broke into the servers for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Although no one knows what data the hackers viewed, they apparently had complete access to the lobbying group’s systems, including information about its three million members. The hackers also stole six weeks’ worth of e-mails for four of the organization’s employees who worked on Asian policy matters.

The complex attack was discovered and halted in May 2010, but the hackers may have been intruding on the Chamber’s systems for up to a year. “What was unusual about it was that this was clearly somebody very sophisticated, who knew exactly who we are and who targeted specific people and used sophisticated tools to try to gather intelligence,” said Chamber COO David Chavern.
