Computerworld: Net Applications and StatCounter have released reports that paint two very different pictures of the browser market for June 2012. According to Net Applications, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer remained number one with 54 percent of the market, followed by Mozilla Firefox with 20.1 percent and Google’s Chrome with 19.1 percent. However, StatCounter put Chrome in first place with 32.8 percent of the market, followed by Internet Explorer with 32.3 percent and Firefox with 24.6 percent. The discrepancy is caused by the firms’ differing methodologies: StatCounter counts page views, while Net Applications counts unique visitors.

Net Applications reported that Apple won the mobile Web browsing wars for June with 65.3 percent of all Web traffic. Android had 19.7 percent.
