Kiran Kamity, CEO of ContainerX, has a straightforward vision for his company: he wants to be like VMware’s vSphere, but for containers. ContainerX emerged from stealth mode this week at the Dockercon EU conference in Barcelona, Spain.
In a video interview with eWEEK, the co-founders of ContainerX explain the vision behind the company and provide a brief demonstration of the technology.
“We’re a team of former engineers from Citrix, VMware and Microsoft, based in San Jose and we’re funded by VMware ex-CTO Steve Herrod,” Kamity told eWEEK. “We have put together an-inclusive, ready-to-go, container infrastructure platform that is designed for enterprise IT organizations.”
To date, ContainerX has raised $2.7 million in funding, led by General Catalyst, which is where Steve Herrod is a managing director.
Currently the ContainerX platform is still in a closed beta, with plans set for general availability in 2016. The platform still has some rough edges, for example it doesn’t yet integrate with ActiveDirectory and LDAP system for enterprise access and authorization.
