Mobile Malware Cases Nearly Triple in First Half of 2012, Says NetQin

PCWorld: Beijing-based security vendor NetQin says that 13 million mobile phones worldwide became infected with malware during the first half of 2012. That’s a 177 percent year-over-year increase. The company notes that malware spiked in June, with 3.7 million new cases detected. According to the report, 78 percent of mobile malware targets the Android platform, and most of the rest targets Nokia’s Symbian OS.

China produces about 25 percent of all mobile malware, making it the leader among world countries. The country also has a high rate of infected mobile phones.
