Use case

Patrick Terminals

Patrick Terminals moves thousands of 30-ton cargo containers a day around their busy maritime terminal in Australia. Moving this heavy cargo, at speeds of up to 22 kilometers per hour, means needing reliable automation technologies that can grow with customer demands, business priorities, and industry requirements.

Patrick Terminals turned to HPE to help keep their terminal running smoothly. Data is fed into their private cloud, and the necessary calculations are performed nearly instantly without latency to direct the terminal yard equipment, all while managing all information coming in from shipping lines, exporters, importers, and industry regulators.

Patrick Terminals ultimately employed a cloud-centered solution involving HPE SimpliVity, HPE Synergy, HPE Primera, HPE StoreOnce, HPE Cloud Bank Storage, and an Aruba Switch.

“Having HPE GreenLake cloud services puts us in good stead for handling new business demands as they emerge, whether it’s supporting greater automation, enabling new services for customers, or providing added security to our systems,” says Adrian Sandrin, CIO, Patrick Terminals.

“Running our private cloud as a service is a major advantage from a business perspective.”

With HPE, Patrick Terminals has been able to support autonomous and accurate container placement, reduce the time to deliver reports for customers, and strengthen the security of their data.

Differentiators

HPE promises to accelerate business outcomes with self-service agility that allows organizations to easily and quickly deploy resources, view costs, and forecast capacity through a single management platform.

HPE is committed to delivering a hybrid cloud experience, including:

  • Creating a cloud experience for non-cloud-native applications that have historically created a barrier to cloud adoption
  • Containerizing monolithic applications to improve their performance
  • Facilitating a shift to agile DevOps processes
  • Streamlining and optimizing development processes and leveraging microservices

HPE has also received several notable awards and recognition in the marketplace, including:

  • Fortune’s “World’s Most Admired Companies” 2022
  • Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work” 2022
  • Ranked by Newsweek as one of America’s “Most Responsible Companies” 2022
  • HPCwire Award for Leadership in High Performance Computing 2021
  • Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion 2021

User reviews

HPE receives high reviews for their cloud portfolio, including an overall positive rating by Gartner earlier this year. This result reflects HPE’s commitment to continued improvements for new and existing products.

Pricing

Pricing is difficult to estimate or generalize, with HPE choosing to use a consumption-based cost model that is designed on a customer-by-customer basis, as driven by SLA commitments and current needs for bandwidth, storage, and support.

With HPE cloud, customers pay for what they use.

Conclusions

Built on a solid foundation of experience and knowledge, HPE is focused on providing end-to-end cloud solutions for their customers. One of the largest benefits is found with their Cloud Consulting Services. Experts are available to assess current applications, identify shortfalls with technology and skills, and create a migration plan to embrace the right mix of clouds for an organization.

This consultative approach sets HPE apart, and is intended to optimize operations and determine the requisite next steps, regardless of where organizations are in the cloud.
