The cloud computing market is dominated by several major providers, but Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to lead the pack.
AWS, Amazon’s cloud subsidiary, holds the largest share, 32%, of the estimated $150 billion cloud market, as of Q1 2021.
With “hundreds of thousands” of customers in over 190 countries, AWS reported $45.37 billion in revenue in 2020.
AWS offers over 200 cloud products. See below to learn about some AWS’ key cloud products and where it stands in the cloud market:
AWS Products
- Application Integration: Application integration allows organizations and their developers to link apps and services without having to refactor entire architectures. In addition, integration services allow applications to continue running even if another linked application fails.
- Cloud Financial Management: A number of services are offered that facilitate enhanced forecasting and budgeting.
- Compute: Compute services allow organizations to have granular control over the cloud infrastructure they use for their needs.
- Containers: AWS containers are scalable, reliable, and secure. They are also deeply integrated with the AWS infrastructure. This ensures that container applications can make use of the other services that are part of the AWS ecosystem.
- Developer Tools: A number of tools are offered that allow developers to implement continuous integration and delivery, accelerating the software development cycle.
- End User Computing on AWS: This service gives an organization’s end users the capacity to access the applications and desktops they need from compatible devices. The platform is secure and resources can be scaled up or down according to the needs of the business.
- Media services: AWS provides services that let customers transport, prepare, process, and deliver content in the cloud.
- Quantum Technologies: AWS provides researchers and developers with access to quantum hardware technologies, allowing them to explore and build quantum algorithms.
- Serverless: AWS tools that allow for serverless computing let customers focus only on writing code for their user base. AWS handles functions like capacity provisioning and patching.
AWS Partnerships
AWS has a network of partners that use AWS to build solutions and services for customers. These partnerships span a number of industries:
- Brightcove (Digital Media): Brightcove uses AWS to provide cloud solutions for the delivering and monetizing of video across connected devices.
- Splunk (Education): Splunk lets customers analyze and visualize data, so they can deepen business insights, prevent cybersecurity threats, and improve service. This service is useful for universities seeking to provide better offerings for both students and employees.
- Hitachi Vantara (Financial Services): Hitachi provides solutions that support demanding finance applications.
- Cloudreach (Government): Cloudreach helps public sector organizations operate more efficiently by providing successful cloud transformations.
- Pariveda Solutions (Health care): Pariveda Solutions helps health care organizations improve their performance by providing them with technologies such as cloud advisory services and DevOps automation.
AWS Use Cases
Moderna
Moderna is a biomedical company that develops vaccines that use messenger RNA (mRNA), such as for COVID-19. They use AWS to power high-performance computation, data integration, and analytics as well as the automation of lab and manufacturing processes. AWS also provides cost savings since the powerful computing they provide is less expensive than having this capacity on-premises.
Capital One
Capital One is a financial services company. They have used the cloud to provide better services to customers. Capital One uses AWS to power development processes, run model training, and for their customer service solutions, such as their contact centers and customer relationship management (CRM). The company also uses the available AWS security solutions to ensure that customer information is kept safe.
Pearson
Pearson is an education company that provides content to students. The company uses AWS to help them to scale up capacity during high traffic periods as well as create apps, digital books, and Revel, which is an interactive learning environment.
