The importance of network security should never be underestimated. In today’s world, there is no room for being lax about network security.

This is exhibited by the growing number of large-scale cyber attacks that are becoming more prevalent.

Here, we highlight the capabilities of several major network security vendors through case studies across industries:

4 Case Studies on Network Security

1. Network Security: Palo Alto Networks

Palo Alto Networks is a global cybersecurity company that takes care of the network security needs of many customers. They also need these same services. They have, for instance, deployed zero trust internally to ensure their digital sphere is protected. They used a five-step strategy to do this which involved the following:

  1. Define the protect surface
  2. Map the transaction flows
  3. Build a zero-trust architecture
  4. Create zero-trust policy
  5. Monitor and maintain

By implementing this zero-trust solution, Palo Alto Networks has joined the companies they serve in securing their network.

2. Internet Service Provider (ISP): NexusOcean

NexusOcean provides internet services to offshore energy and merchant shipping companies. Their service has to be reliable and secure. To ensure the security of their network, NexusOcean has integrated Fortinet’s Secure SD-WAN into its portfolio. With this setup, they are able to offer customized security capabilities for protecting customer network traffic. This is especially important since ships have increasingly become vulnerable to cyber attacks, including the engine room and navigational equipment. Fortinet’s SD-WAN solution, along with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer, allows for fast internet access that meets the highest maritime standards for network security.

3. Sports: Major League Baseball (MLB)

Major League Baseball is going above and beyond to ensure that fans have a fast, stable, and secure streaming experience. MLB has teamed up with Okta to make this a possibility, using solutions such as a zero-trust framework. In addition, with Okta’s technology, Major League Baseball is able to have a consistent security layer throughout the entire organization. By working with Okta and implementing their zero-trust framework, not only has MLB improved security across all of the associated baseball clubs, they have also been able to offer a more streamlined customer experience. They have also been able to free up developer resources that can now be dedicated to other development issues.

4. Museums: Natural History Museum

The Natural History Museum in the U.K. is one of Britain’s most popular visitor attraction and a large operation. In the past, their security approach was disjointed, and they were in need of a solution to unite everything privacy-related. With OneTrust’s technology and services, they were provided with a centralized point of access for crucial data-protection tasks. The museum is now able to access tasks, like record-keeping and assessments, from one central hub. In addition, employees have a better understanding of the importance of privacy in their roles, which helps to improve privacy compliance and network security across the board.
