SAP Agrees to Pay Oracle $306 Million in TomorrowNow Case

Computerworld: SAP and Oracle have agreed to a settlement that will end their long-running corporate theft lawsuit. SAP will pay Oracle $306 million and admit that workers at its TomorrowNow subsidiary illegally downloaded Oracle software and support materials.

The case went to trial in 2010, and a jury awarded Oracle $1.3 billion in damages. However, the judge reduced that amount to $272 million. Rather than accept the lower payout, Oracle opted to re-try the case, and the new trial was scheduled to begin later this month. In a joint statement, SAP and Oracle said that they agreed to the settlement “to save the time and expense of this new trial.”
