Computerworld: Gartner has changed its 2012 IT spending predictions. The research firm now believes the world will spend $3.6 trillion on IT this year, a 3 percent increase over 2011. Previously, the firm had forecast a 2.5 percent increase. “While the challenges facing global economic growth persist — the eurozone crisis, a weaker U.S. recovery, a slowdown in China — the outlook has at least stabilized,” said Gartner’s Richard Gordon.

The company expects spending on public cloud computing services to grow 19 percent this year. Hardware spending will likely climb 3.4 percent, while enterprise software purchases rise 4.3 percent.

Meanwhile, IT hiring and salary growth remains flat.
