TGDaily: HP has announced that it will lay off 275 workers, about half of the team that had been working on webOS. The news is fairly unsurprising as HP tablets based on the webOS mobile operating system failed to take off. HP had earlier announced that it would transition the technology, originally developed by Palm, to an open source model.

In a statement, HP acknowledged the layoffs, saying, “This creates a smaller and more nimble team that is well-equipped to deliver an open source webOS and sustain HP’s commitment to the software over the long term.”
