The Register: Ordinarily, two percent growth in worldwide PC sales isn’t much to celebrate; however, since analysts had been predicting PC sales declines for the first quarter of this year, the slight growth in the market is pretty good news. Preliminary figures from IDC show the world PC market grew 2.3 percent, while Gartner believes PC sales climbed just 1.8 percent. PC sales in North America and Latin America dropped in the first quarter, but gains in EMEA and the Asia-Pacific region more than made up the difference.

The top manufacturers for the period included HP (18 percent market share), Lenovo (13.4 percent), Dell (11.6 percent) and Acer (9.9 percent).
