Computerworld: According to market research firm IDC, Samsung had the largest share of smartphone sales in the first quarter, selling a record-setting 42.2 million smartphones. Apple, which previously held first place, sold 35.1 million iPhones during the period. Nokia came in a distant third with 11.9 million smartphones sold, followed by RIM and HTC.

Overall, the smartphone market grew 42.5 percent compared to last year. Manufacturers shipped approximately 144.9 million smartphones during the first three months of 2012.
