Google-owned Motorola has revealed that it plans to make the upcoming Moto X smartphone at a factory near Fort Worth, Texas. It will be the first such device to be manufactured in the U.S.

KERA’s Lauren Silverman reported, “There are more than 130 million smartphones in the U.S. But none of them say ‘Made in the USA.’ When Motorola debuts its high-end smartphone — the Moto X — it will be the first. Every one of Motorola’s new Moto X smartphones will pass through a manufacturing facility in Fort Worth.”

CNN’s Dan Simon and Brandon Griggs added, “The Moto X is scheduled to hit the market by the end of the year. It’s the first new phone to be designed entirely under the ownership of Google, which bought Motorola Mobility last year.”

All Things D’s Liz Gannes noted, “Moto X will be laden with sensors that are tightly integrated into the phone and draw little power, [Motorola’s Dennis] Woodside said. For example, the phone will know when it’s taken out of someone’s pocket. And in a car traveling 60 miles per hour, the phone will act differently so a user can interact with it safely.”

Time’s Jared Newman wrote, “Some components will come from America, but others, including the screen and processor, will come from countries such as Taiwan and Korea. A manufacturing partner, Flextronics, will assemble phones in China and Brazil for shipping outside the United States.”
