Wired: With the launch of Windows 8 and Windows RT (the Windows 8 version for tablets) just a couple months away, Microsoft has released more details about the launch of the new operating system. A new blog post from Microsoft’s Mike Anguilo says the company is working very hard with partners like Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Samsung to create tablets using the new OS. Three prominent manufacturers are conspicuously absent from that list: HP, HTC and Acer.

The blog said the four manufacturers have committed to building devices with always-on battery technology and energy efficient operation to maximize battery life. Weights for the new tablets range from 1.14 to 2.65 pounds, and thicknesses vary from 0.33 to 0.61 inch.

Of course, Microsoft is also working on its own Windows RT tablet, the Surface RT.
