CNNMoney: In its most recent quarterly “Threats Report,” security vendor McAfee reported that it found 8 million new strains of malware in the second quarter, a 23 percent increase over Q1. The company said it represented the biggest increase in malware detections in the last four years.

While Windows PCs continue to be the most popular target for malware “Attacks that we’ve traditionally seen on PCs are now making their way to other devices,” said McAfee’s Vincent Weafer. The company reported an increase in spam text messages, smartphone botnets, mobile “ransomware” and Twitter attacks.
