LinkedIn Investigating Reports That 6.46 Million Hashed Passwords Have Leaked Online

The Verge: A hacker posting in a Russian forum has uploaded 6,458,020 passwords that he claims come from LinkedIn. The passwords are hashed but not salted, meaning that it would take hackers some time to figure out most passwords but it can be done. However, the list of passwords does not include user names. About the incident, LinkedIn tweeted, “Our team is currently looking into reports of stolen passwords. Stay tuned for more.”

Some security experts say they believe that the list of passwords is legitimate. LinkedIn users are encouraged to change their passwords.
