Hadoop Growing, Not Replacing RDBMS in Enterprises

Computerworld: In a recent survey of 160 large enterprises, more than half of the companies that needed to analyze large amounts of structured and unstructured data were using Hadoop. However, Hadoop isn’t replacing traditional RDBMSes. In most cases, it’s being used alongside these older tools in order to add new capabilities. “In two-thirds of the cases, we found that people are using Hadoop for advanced analytics, and for types of analysis that they were not doing before,” said report author David Menninger.

However, 49 percent of those surveyed said they were not happy with Hadoop’s security. Respondents also expressed difficulties with getting enough trained staff to manage the software.
