InformationWeek: In an open letter, Google CEO Larry Page touted his company’s accomplishments during his first year at the helm, including some very impressive stats for the company’s Android mobile operating system. “Android is on fire, and the pace of mobile innovation has never been greater,” Page wrote. “Over 850,000 devices are activated daily through a network of 55 manufacturers and more than 300 carriers.”

In the past three and a half years, the company has activated more than 300 million Android smartphones and tablets. And according to research from Nielsen, half of all new smartphones purchased in the U.S. run Android.
