eWeek: Over the weekend, Google+ began deleting the accounts belonging to people that it believed had not used their real names, leading to numerous complaints from users. Now the fledgling social network is changing its policy slightly to address privacy concerns. It will now notify users before suspending their accounts. Also, although it will still require users to sign up with their real names, it will allow them to list nicknames, maiden names, etc. in the “other names” portion of their profiles.
Some observers note that this new policy does little to alleviate the concerns of those who have legitimate reasons for using pseudonyms, and it will make it easier for Google to sell targeted advertising on the service.
