Wired: As part of its ongoing efforts to convince enterprises and small businesses that its cloud-based office productivity suite is secure, Google has announced that Google Apps has been certified as compliant with the ISO 27001 standard. Previously, the company has announced that the service passed SSAE 16 Type II and ISAE 3402 Type II audits and achieved FISMA compliance. Google’s Eran Feigenbaum compares the certification process to the process banks went through to develop customer trust. “It’s very similar to the situation banks were in hundreds of years ago,” she said. “They had to convince us to give them our money, to take the money out from under the mattress and put it in the bank.”

According to Google, 4 million businesses use Google Apps.
