DOJ to Take Closer Look at Google’s Motorola Deal

Time: The Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting a more extensive review of Google’s proposed purchase of Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. The department has taken the somewhat unusual step of making a second request for information related to the deal.

Despite the more extensive inquiry, Google senior vice president Dennis Woodside said “We’re confident that the DOJ will conclude that the rapidly growing mobile ecosystem will remain highly competitive after this (Motorola) deal closes.” In the past, federal regulators have approved every acquisition made be Google.

The Federal Trade Commission is still conducting a separate investigation into whether Google’s search practices are anti-competitive.
