Wall Street Journal: According to IDC, PC manufacturers shipped 18.5 million units to China in the second quarter, while they shipped just 17.7 million units to the U.S. That’s the first time China has ever overtaken the U.S. as the world leader for PC shipments during a single quarter. The market research firm believes that the U.S. will still have more PC shipments for 2011 as a whole, but that China will take the crown in 2012.
Wolf Group Asia’s David Wolf summed up the news saying, “The center of gravity of the PC industry has shifted away from the developed world.”
