Cnet: According to a new report from Canaccord Genuity, the top two smartphone makers, Apple and Samsung, account for 90 percent of all profits in their industry. Apple alone accounted for 80 percent of handset manufacturer profits in the fourth quarter of 2011.

The firm predicts that Apple and Samsung could extend their domination of the market in the first quarter of 2012. In particular, Apple’s iPhone is gaining popularity in western Europe and emerging markets.
