InformationWeek: According to research firm Canalys, Apple is now the world’s largest PC manufacturer–if you count tablets as PCs. In the fourth quarter, Apple sold 20 million computing devices (approximately 15 million iPads and 5 million Macs), giving it a 17 percent market share.

HP came in at number two on Canalys’ list with 12.7 percent of the market. It was followed by Lenovo (11.2 percent), Dell (9.9 percent) and Acer (9.3 percent).

Canalys analyst Tim Coulling defended the inclusion of tablets in the totals, saying, “You have to look at the market holistically and consider that people are using tablets in much the same way as one might use a PC–for e-mailing, Web browsing, and other tasks.”
