CNNMoney: The latest report from IDC says that Android captured 68 percent of the worldwide smartphone market in the second quarter. That was four times greater than iOS’s 17 percent market share. Manufacturers shipped 105 Android phones during the period–twice as many as they shipped in the second quarter of 2011. IDC said much of Android’s success comes from Samsung, which accounted for 44 percent of Android sales. In fact, Samsung sold more Android smartphones than its next seven competitors combined.

Meanwhile, RIM sales continued their decline, dropping 41 percent year-over-year amounting to less than 5 percent of the market. Nokia’s Symbian also sank to a new low.
