Android App Websites Seized in the U.S. for Alleged Copyright Violations

PCWorld: Working together, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Justice Department, several U.S. attorneys’ offices and Dutch and French law enforcement officials have shut down three websites accused of offering pirated Android apps. The three domains–applanet.net, appbucket.net and snappzmarket.com–now display takedown notices. “Software apps have become an increasingly essential part of our nation’s economy and creative culture, and the criminal division is committed to working with our law enforcement partners to protect the creators of these apps and other forms of intellectual property from those who seek to steal it,” said the Justice Department’s Lanny A. Breuer.

This is the first time the U.S. federal government has conducted an operation of this type due to enforce copyright protections for mobile apps.
