eWeek: Chip maker AMD has announced quarterly revenues of $1.69 billion, a 4 percent year-over-year increase. Profits for the period totaled $97 million, a marked improvement over the previous year when the company turned in a $118 million loss.

Much of the credit for the good earnings report goes to excellent sales of notebook processors, and higher sales prices for AMD’s Opteron server chips also played a role. Earlier in the quarter, AMD’s finances looked less rosy when manufacturing problems caused a shortfall in supplies of the company’s processors.
