GigaOm: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a new cloud computing service known as Storage Gateway which allows enterprises to upload data directly from their on-premise storage systems to Amazon’s cloud. The feature makes it easier for companies to use Amazon’s cloud for backup, and the technology eliminates some of the latency problems inherent in cloud storage. Enterprises could also use Amazon EC2 cloud computing instances to analyze or process the data uploaded through the Storage Gateway.

Prices for a 12 volume Storage Gateway with 12TB of capacity start at $125 per month, plus 14 cents per GB for snapshot images.
