The leading data storage vendors each have a niche to shine in, according to a recent survey of IT professionals. Stuart Johnston reports.
EMC is the market leader for unified storage, according to the latest IT brand leadership survey from tracking company IT Brand Pulse.
In fact, respondents said that, within the category of unified storage, EMC (NYSE: EMC) is also the leader in performance, and reliability, as well as service and support, according to IT Brand Pulse’s March brand leadership survey.
The company conducts monthly surveys of IT professionals regarding their feelings about vendors’ offerings in various industries or categories, publishing survey results for six of them.
For instance, for March, IT Brand Pulse published leadership results for backup software, unified storage, tape libraries, fibre channel host bus adapters (HBA), fibre channel switches and laptops.
EMC did not have a clean sweep of brand leadership for unified storage in March, however. Dell’s (NASDAQ: DELL) Compellent storage business won in price leadership, while NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) came out as the leader for innovation in unified storage.
Meanwhile, Quantum (NYSE: QTM) came out ahead in the tape libraries category with an almost clean sweep of the category, except for a tie on service and support with IBM (NYSE: IBM).
