SEATTLE — Boeing is working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to “transform” its aerospace design and manufacturing.

Boeing selected AWS as its “strategic” cloud provider, according to AWS this month.

Boeing intends to use AWS’ portfolio to create a technology foundation to “strengthen” its engineering and manufacturing processes.

The expanded relationship will extend Boeing’s existing cloud operations and streamline Boeing’s approach to cloud computing.

Boeing will migrate applications out of on-premises data centers to AWS.

AWS will also support Boeing digital applications to unlock insights to drive product innovation, more efficient operations, and improved customer support.

The deal expands Boeing’s cloud operations and allows Boeing to take advantage of AWS’ infrastructure and cloud services, including high-performance computing (HPC).

The two companies are “committed to using advanced technologies to take on the most ambitious engineering feats,” said Matt Garman, SVP of sales and marketing, AWS.

They will deliver solutions that will help Boeing customers today and in “future aerospace travel,” Garman said.

Susan Doniz, CIO and SVP of information technology and data analytics at Boeing, said the engagement “represents a significant investment in Boeing’s digital future.”

The relationship enables Boeing’s employees through “the latest tools, technology, and expertise,” Doniz said.

“Our cloud strategy removes infrastructure restraints, allowing for more ownership within teams, simplifies our processes, creates easier and more secure access to information, and empowers our people to perform their best,” Doniz said.
