The beta versions of two new Citrix exams are available at no charge for a limited time.
Exam 1Y1-223 — Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0: Enterprise Edition Administration will be available through Aug. 6. It contains 136 items based on Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0, and has a 2.5-hour time limit.
Exam 1Y1-722 — Citrix MetaFrame Secure Access Manager 2.2: Administration is the other test currently in beta. It will be available though July 30. For this second test, items cover the design, installation and maintenance of MetaFrame Secure Access Manager 2.2. There are 181 items and the time limit is 3 hours.
As is usually the case, scores for these beta exams will not be available until after the beta period has been completed, test results analyzed, and a passing score established. Testing is through Prometric.
CompTIA Extends Mix and Match Period for A+
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) has extended the option to mix and match exams referencing the old (2001) and new (2003) objectives for A+ certification through Sept. 30. This option originally was slated to expire June 30. For more on A+ certification, GoCertify’s A+ page.
CIW Foundations Exam to be Updated, New Objectives Available
The CIW program has released new objectives and study material for its CIW Foundations exam. The current v4 Foundations exam and courseware is slated to retire in December.
The program that allowed individuals certified under CompTIA’s i-Net+ program to become CIW Associates for a fee will also be retired at that time. The new v5 version of Foundations is no longer considered equivalent to i-Net+. The v5 Foundations exam is scheduled for release in the fall.

New Convergence Exams Now Available from Nortel
Two new certification exams covering the latest in convergence technologies are now available from Nortel Networks. They replace the VoIP Technology (#920-801) and IP Convergence (#920-802) exams required for the Specialist and Expert certifications in the VoIP and IP Convergence portfolio.
The Technology Standards and Protocols for IP Telephony Solutions exam (#920-803) is an update to the VoIP Technology exam (#920-801). It replaces the VoIP Technology exam as a requirement for all Specialist certifications in the VoIP portfolio.
The Technology Standards and Protocols for Converged Networks exam (#920-804) is an update to the IP Convergence exam (#920-802). It replaces the IP Convergence exam as a requirement for all Expert certifications in the VoIP portfolio.
Microsoft Certification Count Exceeds 1.5 Million
According to Microsoft’s learning Web site, more than 1.5 million Microsoft certifications have been earned since the Microsoft Certified Professional program was established in 1992. That includes 958,242 MCPs (Microsoft Certified Professionals), 11,697 MCSA Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) on Microsoft Windows 2000 titles, and 151,284 Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) on Microsoft Windows 2000 certifications.
Among the more recent Windows Server 2003 titles, there are 10,013 individuals certified as MCSE on Windows Server 2003, and 18,998 as MCSA on Microsoft Windows Server 2003. There are also over 125,000 MCDBAs (Microsoft Certified Database Administrator and, more than 54,000 MCSDs (Microsoft Certified Solution Developers).
