Novell has announced plans to close its Certified Directory Engineer (CDE) program to new candidates in light of its purchase of SuSE Linux. Current CDE candidates have until April 1 to obtain certification by passing the current CDE exam. Expect a fresh Novell/Linux certification program in the future.

According to Novell’s CDE Web page, “Novell and SuSE are now working together to lay the foundation for the future of our training courses and certifications which will focus strongly on our Linux and open-source initiatives.” Individuals who hold a CDE as of April 1 can continue to use the credential in the future.


CompTIA to Revise Server+

CompTIA has announced plans to introduce a revised version of its Server+ exam in the fourth quarter. The revised exam, which is still under development by subject matter experts, will feature new technologies and best practices related to skills needed by server technicians. The new objectives will be posted on the CompTIA Web site within the next few weeks.


Cisco Offering Two-in-One CCIP Exam

On March 10, Cisco Systems will release exam 642-691, which candidates can take in place of the existing BGP and MPLS exams to shorten the path to CCIP (Cisco Certified Internetwork Professional) certification by one exam. The new exam will also serve as a recertification exam for current CCIPs. The exam has a two-hour time limit, and consists of 80-90 questions. Full exam information can be found on Cisco’s Web site.


Marimba Revamps Certification Program

The Marimba Professional Certification program has been revamped to create a three-tier system for credentialing expertise with Marimba products.

The three levels are: Marimba Certified Analyst (MCA), Marimba Certified Engineer (MCE), and Marimba Certified Consultant (MCC). The certifications must be earned in order, and each requires passing a single associated exam. The exams are Web-based, offered via Marimba’s secure certification Web site, and cost $100 each. The MCC is specifically for Marimba partners.
