Lotus 4 and 4.5 exams set to retire September 30
With the release of version 6 imminent, Lotus will retire the Notes Domino 4 and 4.5 exams. This means that Lotus professionals who haven’t passed the Web elective as part of the Notes Domino 5 update are running of time. Individuals who don’t complete the update by 9/30 will have to start over for Notes Domino 6 instead of simply updating, so make sure you finish up before then.
Revised CDIA+ Exam Launched, New CompTIA Certification Planned
A complete revision of the CompTIA’s document imaging certification, CDIA+, went live April 22. Topics covered by the revised exam include gathering business requirements (25%), analyzing business process (22%), recommend solution (16%), design solution (24%), and planning for implementation (13%). The exam costs $199 ($149 for CompTIA members).
In other CompTIA news, the latest topic to make it onto the short list for a CompTIA certification is residential systems integration (RSI+). This certification, still in planning stages, is for technicians who install and troubleshoot integrated residential subsystems. This includes the integration and distribution of multiple subsystems, including: Communications Network; Entertainment Network; Security Network; Home Control Network; Services and Subscription; Commercial Wiring/Cabling and Computer Network. If you think you might qualify as a subject matter expert and want to help develop this new designation, contact CompTIA via this online form.
Entry Level Convergence Technologies Title Created
The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and ProsoftTraining have created a new, entry level certification for the convergent technology field. The new Convergence Technologies Professional (CTP) certification is designed to serve as an introductory-level certification or prerequisite leading to product and application specific certifications from various manufacturers. The exam covers convergence industry standards and protocols, infrastructure, signaling, basic telephony, voice-over IP, convergence of computer and communications, and the skills required to perform jobs related to these technologies. The CTP exam will be in beta from May 3-June 7, with the live exam planned for mid July. The exam will be administered by Prometric and cost $125.
MBA Plus MOUS Becoming More Common
End user computer certification is continuing to make inroads onto college and university campuses. Pepperdine University, Texas Christian University, The University of Memphis, and East-West University all require MOUS certification as a graduation requirement. At Texas Christian University, it’s not just a graduation requirement, it’s an admission prerequisite for students who wish to major in business. According to Certiport, which administers the MOUS program, dozens of additional US colleges and universities offer the MOUS certification program as an elective. More advanced certification training has been available through some community colleges and universities for some time, but as an educational track option rather than a requirement.
