DDoS Mitigation – Best Practices for a Rapidly Changing Threat Landscape

Verisign: In a 2009 survey, 74 percent of enterprises said they had experienced at least one distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack during the past year. And those attacks have become harder to counter than in previous years. What can enterprises do? Verisign offers five best practices:

1. Centralize data gathering and understand trends.
2. Define a clear escalation path.
3. Use layered filtering.
4. Build in scalability and flexibility.
5. Address application and configuration issues.
