Mashable: Twitter has announced a new tool called Twitter Web Analytics which should make it easier for website owners to see how Twitter is impacting site traffic. Powered by BackType (a social analytics technology that Twitter purchased in July), the new tool helps find answers to three questions: How many Twitter users are sharing links to your site? How much traffic is coming to your site from Twitter? And how many people are using the Tweet buttons on your site?

Twitter Web Analytics will be available for free, and the company will publish an API for developers. The tool should become available later this week.
