InformationWeek: In its quarterly financial report, Samsung revealed that its smartphone sales quadrupled since last year. The company sold 28 million smartphones in the most recent quarter, up from 7 million during the same quarter last year. By comparison, Apple sold only 17 million iPhones in its most recent quarter.

Samsung now controls 23.8 percent of the smartphone market, eclipsing both Apple and the former market leader Nokia.
