PCWorld: A new report from security vendor McAfee says that the first quarter of 2012 was the “busiest quarter in recent history” for malware. The company found 83 million samples of malware during the period, including 200,000 new Trojans. The report also found increases in the amount of software with faked security signatures, rootkits and malware targeting the Mac and Android platforms. In fact, Android attacks quadrupled during the quarter.

McAfee says that China and Russia were the countries accounting for the largest percentage of malware; those were also the countries most likely to be targeted by malware.
