Chrome Could Unseat Firefox as No. 2 Browser

Cnet: NetApplications has released its September 2011 browser usage statistics for both desktop and mobile markets. On the desktop side, Microsoft Internet Explorer retained first place, but fell from 55.3 percent to 54.4 percent of the market. Number two Firefox also slipped from 22.6 percent to 22.5 percent. However, Google’s Chrome rose from 15.5 percent to 16.2 percent, and Apple’s Safari climbed from 4.6 percent to 5.0 percent.

On the mobile side, leader Safari increased from 53.0 percent to 54.7 percent of the market. Opera Mini fell from 20.8 percent to 18.5 percent. And Google’s unbranded Android browser climbed from 15.7 percent to 16.3 percent.
