Apple iPhone Tops Smartphone Charts in 2nd Quarter

Cnet: According to market research firm IDC, Apple was the number one smartphone manufacturer during the second quarter of 2011, shipping 20.3 million iPhones and capturing 19.1 percent of the market. Those results mean Apple’s smartphone shipments grew 141.7 percent year-over-year.

The number two smartphone manufacturer, Samsung, saw even bigger growth numbers — 380.6 percent. It sold 17.3 million devices for a 16.2 percent market share.

Rounding out the top five were Nokia (15.7 percent market share), RIM (11.6 percent) and HTC (11.0 percent).
