Business analysts are offered an average salary of $72,000 per year and an average contract rate of $60 per hour, according to dice.com, EarthWeb’s online job board for IT professionals. The highest paid positions come in at around $150,000 per year and the lowest at around $30,000. Of currently open positions, 74% are salaried and 26% are contractual, or paid by the hour.
New York is clearly the hot spot for this type of professional. Business analysts there make an average salary of $83,000 per year and an average contract rate of $79 per hour, significantly higher than what can be found elsewhere. New York also has more than twice as many available jobs as any other metro area, with 27% of the overall demand. Other areas with a large concentration of open jobs are Silicon Valley (12%), Los Angeles (10%), and Chicago (7%).
