The news of the myTouch Android 2.2 model comes at a time when industry watchers and early adopters are eager to have the latest version of Android, as it includes significant enhancements to the Google-backed mobile OS.

T-Mobile has expanded its myTouch line with a new Android 2.2 handset from HTC that sports a speedier processor than initial models as well as a front-facing camera for video calls, a larger screen and support for the carrier’s HSPA+ network, which offers 4G-like performance.

The new myTouch does not come with a specific name — T-Mobile is referring to it simply as the new myTouch — but it does come with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8GB microSD card, a 3.8-inch touchscreen with Swype, a 5-megapixel rear camera with HD video capture and a camera on front for video chat calls. The video calls can be made to other myTouch users or be placed to a computer user through Yahoo Messenger or Qik and works on either Wi-Fi or T-Mobile’s 3G network.

Users can share their photo albums, videos and movies wirelessly with a compatible HDTV or other DLNA device. The new phone also includes three exclusive myTouch features: Genius Button, powered by Dragon Dictation from Nuance, which lets customers call, text, e-mail or access the Internet with a voice command; Faves Gallery, which offers shortcuts to one’s most-contacted family and friends; and myModes, which creates customized home screens for work and home.
