TOKYO — The telecommunications company NTT West Group selected Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) GreenLake to help launch hybrid cloud offerings by NTT in Japan.
NTT Business Solutions, a member company of NTT West Group, will work with the HPE cloud-to-edge GreenLake platform to deliver NTT’s Regional Revitalization Cloud initiative and provide a hybrid cloud service to local governments, educational institutions, and businesses across western Japan, according to HPE last month.
The new hybrid cloud service meets the demands of customers for cloud services that span public and private cloud environments and ensures that critical data is located close to the end customer, alleviating any concerns about data sovereignty.
NTT West Group’s initiative is based on a regional information integration platform that combines NTT’s regional data centers, other facilities, and business sector-specific consulting services with community-based support capabilities and the cloud technologies of partner companies.
NTT West Group is implementing a true hybrid cloud approach that leverages the Microsoft Azure public cloud combined with the HPE GreenLake platform for its regional delivery model.
NTT West Group has deployed the HPE GreenLake platform running HPE ProLiant for Microsoft Azure Stack Hub, enabling NTT to provide Azure-consistent services from its own data centers. NTT West Group selected the HPE GreenLake platform partly to accommodate different requirements, resources, and budgets across the various prefectures.
The region’s first cloud services have been launched in Kyoto, Tottori, and Aichi, Japan and are rolling out in individual data centers across a total of 30 different prefectures across the western part of Japan.
To deliver support across all 30 initial prefectures, NTT West Group also tapped HPE Pointnext Services to deliver HPE Complete Care, comprising a dedicated HPE team to operate and maintain the Regional Revitalization Cloud service infrastructure and support the delivery of the program.
NTT Business Solutions selected the HPE GreenLake platform, “because it accelerates our customers’ digital transformation and quickly scales performance and capacity to meet our customers’ business demands,” said Hidenori Kigami, executive officer of value design department, NTT Business Solutions.
Hirokazu Mochizuki, managing director of HPE Japan, said the company is “honored” that NTT West Group chose HPE to run data and applications “that cannot be deployed in the public cloud due to security constraints.”
