WALLDORF, Germany — SAP is enhancing its human experience management (HXM) software suite via the acquisition of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

SAP acquired the intellectual property (IP) of Oakland, California-based SwoopTalent, the maker of an AI-powered platform for the human resources talent life cycle, according to SAP this month.

SwoopTalent’s founders and several its engineering employees will join the team of SAP SuccessFactors. SwoopTalent’s co-founders are Stacy Chapman and Satish Sallakonda, according to LinkedIn.

SAP and SwoopTalent did not disclose the terms of the deal.

SwoopTalent’s AI platform combines, analyzes, and trains data from disparate HR systems and workflows.

SAP will embed SwoopTalent’s data and machine learning (ML) technology across SAP SuccessFactors. The suite offers individualized employee experiences and opportunities that are designed to boost engagement, improve organizational agility, and help business transformation, SAP says.

SAP expects to use SwoopTalent’s technology to strengthen its AI capabilities and provide customers with “a holistic and continuously updated” view of their people: from skills and capabilities to interests and learning preferences — matching employees to internal jobs, projects, courses, and mentors.

“Delivering individualization at scale requires a sophisticated, powerful data platform that extends across multiple systems,” said Meg Bear, chief product officer, SAP SuccessFactors.

“By making workforce data more reliable and accessible, we can help our customers gain powerful insights about their people to effectively upskill, reskill, and redeploy talent and future-proof their business.”

Bear described the co-founders of SwoopTalent “industry thought leaders” with proven expertise using data, machine learning, and analytics to “elevate HR and make organizations more competitive.”

“We are thrilled to have them join SAP to further our HXM strategy,” Bear said.

Champan, SwoopTalent’s co-founder, said organizations are at “a pivotal moment, as work is being redefined around agility, purpose, and culture.”

Chapman added that SAP has “the right vision and strategy” for HXM to deliver technology that enables people to upskill and create a career that aligns with their interests and skills.

“SAP and SwoopTalent are a great cultural fit and share the same values,” Chapman said. “We are excited to continue advancing HXM together.”
