The Guardian: The Irish data protection commission will audit Facebook in order to follow up on claims that the social networking company violated privacy laws. The charges come from Max Schrems, who requested that the company send him all of the data they had about him. In response, Schrems received 1,200 pages of data, including much information that Schrems believed had been deleted.

The Irish commission will also be investigating claims that Facebook collects data on non-members.

If the company is found guilty of data breaches, it faces maximum fines €100,000 or about $139,000.
