IT Salary Tracker: Windows NT Help Desk Professionals

When we last reviewed help desk pros back in July 2000, we found 700
openings. Today there are 956 listed with dice.com, an online job
board for IT professionals, and the location of these positions are
still evenly distributed among the major urban centers. California tops
the list with 201 of the 956 positions offered, followed by Texas, with
80 openings. Over 500 other openings are distributed across the U.S.

The average salary back in July 2000 was $48,000 per year, compared with $43,000 today.
However, contract rates have climbed from $23 per hour to $27 per hour. The
highest wages were found in California and contract rates were in California, at $49,000 per year and $27 per hour, respectively.

All of the positions for help desk pros focused on those with experience
with Windows NT.

compensation listings.
