DORNBIRN, Austria — The venture capital-backed enterprise data management company Crate.io is welcoming a new marketing leader to help “propel” its international growth.

Crate.io hired Ann Thueland as its head of global marketing, according to the company last week.

She will oversee the strategic marketing activities of Crate.io, as it builds on the market for its distributed open source SQL database for machine data. The product is designed to enable data insights at scale.

The San Francisco-based company also has offices in Berlin and Vienna as well as Dornbirn, Austria and Herisau, Switzerland.

Tech marketing background

Thueland has experience in enterprise technology marketing and “a proven track record for scaling startups.”

Most recently, Thueland served as head of marketing for the startup Ververica, a maker of enterprise data stream processing software, which is now part of Alibaba.

Previously, she held senior marketing positions at Hewlett Packard, Fujitsu, and Dell as well as the startup Actifio, a data virtualization company sold to Google.

Eva Schönleitner, CEO of Crate.io, said Thueland’s experience helping to build “hyper-growth global businesses will be invaluable as we enter the next growth phase for our company.”

“We see huge opportunities to scale around the edge,” Schönleitner said.

Thueland said this is an “incredible point in time to join the company and work with an ambitious team and represent such a technically advanced product.”

“I am humbled by the opportunity and look forward to the journey ahead,” Thueland said.

Funding for global growth

Crate.io, founded in 2013, secured $10 million in additional funding in June 2021 from existing investors, including Draper Esprit, Flatz & Partners, and VITO Venture.

The latest investment will accelerate Crate.io’s global commercialization efforts and “enable the company to scale.”

Crate.io has now raised about $31 million in total funding.
