NEW YORK — The machine learning (ML) company Grid.ai is enhancing its deep learning (DL) capabilities through an acquisition.
Grid.ai acquired the open-source DL company Tensorwerk, according to Grid.ai last month.
Grid.ai is a cloud-based platform for building and training ML models.
The deal is intended to boost Grid.ai’s functionality, helping data scientists and researchers build advanced models faster and more efficiently.

Grid.ai is onboarding the Tensorwerk team and using the brand’s products to refine the ML and DL in its platform.
The company believes the effectiveness of ML models, especially DL models, is dependent on the underlying computation resources. Building the infrastructure to run ML models, however, often leads companies to computational debt.
Grid.ai’s SaaS platform, Grid, is designed to help researchers train advanced ML models without investing in computing capabilities.

“ML is one of the technologies that will define and underpin our future,” said William Falcon, co-founder and CEO, Grid.ai.
Falcon said expanding Grid.ai’s team with Tensorwerk’s engineers will help the company “redefine” the category and help customers “engage” with AI software.
Luca Antiga, Tensorwerk’s founder and CEO, said the collaboration between the teams will help customers build products “without having to worry about the infrastructure.”
