The Globe and Mail: Sources “close to the company” say that BlackBerry-maker RIM is preparing for another round of restructuring, which could include layoffs of 2,000 staff members or more. Several executives and managers have exited the company in the past months, most recently, Patrick Spence, who was the firm’s global sales chief. “They’ve been axing people on the sly for months,” one former RIM executive said. “Lots of guys are being packaged out right now.”

RIM also laid off about 2,000 employees last summer. The Canadian firm has been struggling lately to compete in the changing mobile phone industry.
